Duck season ends

November 28, 2011

For many duck hunters, today is something of a letdown. After all, it’s the day after the duck season closed in Minnesota. But we’d love to hear your comments about the season and, in particular, what you thought about the myriad changes the DNR made to this year’s season. Please leave your comments below.

As far as harvest numbers our season here in SW MN was one of the better we had seen since 2007. I enjoyed the half hour before sunrise opener but we hunt spots that do not have near the competition either. I’d like to see more data regarding duck populations and if it made a difference in MN raising the limit of hen mallards and wood ducks. We certainly prefer shooting drakes but a few hens always end up in the bag at times. My yellow labs made some nice retrieves and I managed to harvest a banded goose. Was great to have my nephews along on a few hunts. Once again the season went by without my goal being fulfilled of hunting on Heron Lake.
